Operation: Anvil on October 24, 2009

Scenario

Two of Northern Ireland's police forces, The Garda Siochana and its Emergency Response Unit, have been assisting in the protection of the Royal Dutch Shell Oil Company's Corrib Gas refinery site.  Large scale protests and now violence has forced the Garda to bring in its ERU unit as a show of force.  Though use of force against civilians is not preferred, the level of aggression by protesters has left little choice for the Garda.

Informants have given information suggesting the possible involvement of the now splintered IRA pushing and supplying the protesters.    Recently, more violent attacks by the IRA groups have resulted in the death of 2 police officers and a number of civilian casualties from a bombing of the Corrib Gas site.  The ERU, with support by the Garda Siochana, have initiated Operation: Anvil in an effort to aggressively prevent these new splinter IRA groups from carrying out further attacks on the Corrib site and neutralize the the protesters before they start increasingly violent riots.
